Skywatch Friday - The American Corner

When London does a blue sky it is stunning. This statue is part if the grand Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens. Each corner represents the four corners of the world. This corner is a tribute to the Americas.

Eleanor's Cross

King Edward was heart broken when his beloved wife, Eleanor of Castile died in 1290 at Harby near Lincoln. During the next 5 years he had 12 crosses made and erected at each of the places they rested overnight when he brought her body back to London fro burial at Westminster.

Only three crosses remain. One of these is in front of Charing Cross Station. Although this was restored by the Victorians and is more lavish than the original. It has undergone a recent restoration with the scaffolding only being removed in the last month.

May Theme Day - Statues

First of the month brings us the dailyphoto community's theme day, with this month being statues.
London has so many to choose from. I have chosen to show you one that is here temporarily.

This incredibly life like statue is one of the three statues created by sculpture Christian Jankowski of people performing statues. This one is Salvador Dali's Anthropomorphic Cabinet Woman.
So... is this art imitating life, imitating art or is it life imitating art, imitating life or..what do you think?

Light and Shadows

This totem pole stands in the entrance of the British Museum. The wonderful shadows cast are courtesy of the sun through the amazing glass ceiling.
This is the perfect place to practice your photography skills with light and colour balance. You have natural light and artificial light, several shades of white. What's more you wont be thrown out or confronted about spending hours taking pictures. That's not always easy to find in London.

Piccadilly Circus

Famous for its statue of Eros, but if you look up you will see the three golden swimmers diving from the building.
The contrast of the deco statues against the large advertising screen is truly London.
