The Pianos are back

Since 2008 we've had a couple of weeks in summer when pianos appear all over the city titled 'play me I'm yours'. This year they have colourful art work painted on them. London seems to be full of extremely talented pianist's who give us wonderful impromptu shows.

Another glimpse at last weeks art fair. No she wasn't for sale. Cute though. Coloured pint bottles were for sale on the back of the milk truck.

Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair

Now in its seventh year, the art car boot fair is one of my favourite events in London. A chance to mingle with and buy works from established artists and emerging artists. Fun installations included smashing crockery in the Boules China shop throwing bricks at windscreens or tossing your ex into a car boot. Oh and did I mention the spanking?
I came away with a couple of treasures and calendar is marked for next year.

Remember When

Remember this moment? Recreated by artist Maria von Köhler, causing nearly as much controversy as the original moment.

Cool Art - Charlie Anderson

Last night was the opening of an exciting young Scottish artist, Charlie Anderson, at the "Art of Money" gallery. The work is vibrant and colourful. First glimpse it appears to be a collage of posters and billboards or newspaper cuttings, however it has all been created by paint.
Street art in the gallery.

Charlie is winner of several awards including being winner of the British Airways Degree Show. prize in 2009. This is an artist to watch.

Art at Kew

Showing this weekend only at the Kew Bridge Museum Made @ Kew Bridge is the work of 15 talented artists. The exhibition includes paintings, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, sculptures, miniatures and blacksmith forged pieces.
The works are exhibited among the wonderful steam engines of the museum. Several of the artists workshops and studios are situated next to the museum and will be open to visitors this weekend.
The works in the exhibition are fabulous and combined with a chance to see the artists at work makes this a great opportunity not to be missed - only on this weekend.

Another View

Well we're still in the park, with yet another sculpture by Anish Kapoor. Sheltering beneath the large red circle is an Egyptian goose looking across the lake.
I hope the outlook for the Egyptians beneath the large red sun is as bright as it is for the goose.

Endangered Art

Tottenahm Court tube station is about to undergo the next stage of redevelopment as part of the new cross rail work. The tiling created in the last renovation may be destroyed in the process.
An extract from TFL's site telling us the disruption we can expect here:

To enable the Bond Street station upgrade to get underway, Oxford Street will be closed eastbound between Duke Street and Vere Street for utility works from 14 February for nine months and several bus routes will be on diversion. From April, for eight months, the Northern line won’t stop at Tottenham Court Road station so that major structural works can take place in the platform tunnels. The Central line will continue to serve the station as normal.

You may like to revisit a post I did on this station last April

Art in the Window

A select group of art students from UCL Slade school of fine art have been selected to be artists in residence in the store windows of Heal's furniture store in Tottenham Court Road, as part of the Heal's Reveal's program.

An amazing opportunity for you to be able to watch these very talented artists working. They will be creating here until 6 February.
The talented painter above is Sian Landau. You can follow her progress here: The Art Student.

Our Silences

Ten enormous sculptures form a circle in Victoria Tower Gardens. The work of Mexican sculpture Nuestros Silencios (Our Silences) is on display to mark the bicentenary of Mexico's independence. Each statue has a plate covering the mouth, symbolising freedom of speech and expression.
Already shown in major cities around the world the exhibition moves on to Paris after London.
Really worth a visit if you are in London. Parisians keep a watch out for it when it comes over to you.

Waiting for a Train

It's impossible to miss the 9 metre high statue, by Paul Day, of the kissing couple at St Pancras Station. However there is more to see if you get up close.
A couple of years after its installation a frieze was added around the bottom. This is part of that frieze.
Meet there next time and take a good look at it.
