No Borders London: who we are what we do

NO BORDERS LONDON

What do we believe?

People are on the move around the world. In response to the globalisation of capitalist relations that bring poverty, starvation and war; in response to the world getting smaller; in response to the adverse affects of climate change, in response to our needs.

The attempts by states to control the movement of people leads only to criminalisation, apartheid and death. People are divided into those with and without documents, workers divided into those with and without rights, and countries divided into a strict hierarchy of wealth. Thousands die as they try to cross borders, as the conditions of detention become unbearable or as the threat of return to unbearable conditions get closer. Selective inclusion and ‘illegality’ are methods to divide and control us all. No One Is Illegal!

We support FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT and the RIGHT TO REMAIN for all

Migrants are not victims to be pitied, but a movement of strength that is escaping from the global practices of capture and control, even if to be confronted by new controls. It is the vital space where a post-national anti-capitalist politics is articulated. The precarious nature of migrants‘ lives is an example of how the bosses of the world would like to make the vast majority of us. Their struggles are those that we will all have to take up for ourselves too.

No Borders London support all those in struggle against borders, against their incarceration in detention centres, against their deportation, against their super-exploitation as ‘illegal’ workers. We work to develop spaces of solidarity where resistance and life can be developed

London is a global city with a fantastic history of migration and struggle. No Borders London calls for a continuation of this politics and life, against a politics of division between the settled and the latest migrants.

We support the call from the European Social Forum in Athens for common actions in support of these struggles.

What do we do?

The No Borders London Network has organised demonstrations outside the capital’s detention centres, including outside Harmondsworth in April 2006 and February 2007. It has held pickets outside Communication House reporting centre on Old Street, EC1. It has also held pickets of the London HQ of Kalyx, the private company which runs Harmondsworth.

No Borders London is committed to the transnational organisation of migrant and refugee struggles. It was involved in organising for the Third Day of International Action for Migrant Rights in October 2006, including a demonstration in South London which passed Becket House reporting centre. No Borders London Detainee Support Group, part of the No Borders London Network, provides practical support to refugees and migrants in detention and/or those threatened with deportation, and works to empower their struggles inside and outside detention centres.

No Borders London actively supports migrant labour struggles for employment and social rights, including the “Justice for Cleaners” campaign on the London tube and in the City of London.

No Borders London is committed to deepening public debate about immigration, particularly among those individuals and communities directly affected, and to developing a No Borders perspective on issues such as regularisation.

My email address is Longsuffering.Lady@googlemail.com. I am facing deportation and have become an overstayer thru no fault of mine as my solicitor lied and prevented access to documents till too late. A former failed asylum seeker in another country, I lack human support because I haven't got much mentally in common with women, and the justice system keeps 'ucking me up. Is there any kind of human support available to share issues on intelligent level as we are all equal in the eyes of God and even educatedbuthated shouldhave right to live irrespective of sexual orientation. I found complaint-processing ladies
like Law society don't care a shoot about my complaints and deny predictably. Wish I could have participation of both viewpoints not just the female one. Afraid leave myemail here in case Home Office contacts me with it b4 I have made application for out-of-time human rights claim after locatiNG LAWYER 2 explain case to me.I feel its very very unfait I have no human support just because born leftbrained like bloke with nothing in common with women mentally and being deported 4 that reason although nobody will speak 2 me to find out if thats the truth

I think you guys are being totally unrealistic and a little bit mad too.
If calling for immigration to be drastically curbed and for more measures to stop people coming into this country to work and live is racist and xenophobic then equally calling for all immigrants to be let in willy nilly with zero checks and balances is boardering on the insane!
I agree there are a lot of racists from the "draw up the drawbridge" crowd who are suspicious of immigration and immigrants.
But to pretend every immigrant is the salt of the earth and should just be allowed in no questions asked is absoloutly nuts!

I want to thank God for giving me my wonderful husband - an illegal immigrant. He has taken me out of my white middle class box and taught me about real life, poverty, supporting a family in a developing country. Myt heart goes out to all those who are stuck in the middle of politics and poverty. May God bless you and keep you.
